Today we're going to talk about God's second purpose for your life. I've entitled the message "Connecting With Others." We're going to be talking about the purpose of fellowship or community. God never intended for you to live life alone. God created people to be connected to Himself and to other people. You and I were formed to be part of God's family. NCV Hebrews 2:10 God is the One who made all things, and all things are for His glory. He wanted to have many children share His glory. God wants His kids to love each other. As believers we love God, that's the vertical component that we talked about last week, the purpose of worship. Then we must also love one another, that's the horizontal component, the purpose of fellowship. NLT Matthew 22:39 A second [commandment] is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' At its essence fellowship can be defined as loving God's family. Loving God's family, your Christian brothers and sisters, is not an option for the believer. It's something that every true believer must and will do. NLT 1 John 4:21 And God himself has commanded that we must love not only him but our Christian brothers and sisters, too. Where do you find God's family on earth? You find them in the church. The church is your spiritual family that will last forever. Unfortunately, the trend in our society is for more and more people to abandon church. Every year, the number of people who don't attend church increases. On any given weekend, the percentage of people in church is about 18%. In other words, 82% of people are doing something other than participating in a church service. The thinking is that surely I can communicate with God on my own. I don't need anybody else. The sad fact is the people who are not connected to a church family become disconnected from God. Many of you can attest to that from personal experience. We all need to stay connected to one another in order to stay connected to God. Message Audio |

Currently we're in a message series called "Living With
Purpose." There are five bedrock purposes that every Christian needs to follow
in their lives. These are the purposes that we are talking about in this
series: worship, fellowship, discipleship, service and outreach. Last week we
talked about God's first purpose for your life, the purpose of worship. Surrendering
your entire life to God, mind, emotions and abilities. That's where it all
begins.
