080330.jpgToday, my message is entitled "God's Incredible Love." We are going to look at the first phrase of  John 3:16 (NIV) "For God so loved the world ..." An understanding of God's love can change your life. When you experience God's love, it will revolutionize your life.

Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:18 (NLT) And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. Unbelievers don't understand God's love at all or they would be believers.  Many believers have barely scratched the surface in understanding and experiencing God's love. Ephesians 3:19 (NLT) May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.  Do you want to be complete, full of God's life and power? Then you need to understand and experience God's love in a deeper measure.

What are the results of not understanding and experiencing God's love? We see them around us all the time. Angry people hurt and kill others, because they haven't experienced God's love. Depressed people have no joy in life, some even take their own lives, because they don't understand God's love. People look for love in adultery, like the governor of New York, because they don't know God's love. People try to fill their empty lives with addictive behaviors like drugs, smoking and alcohol, because they have not been filled with the love of God. People spend their money for themselves rather than giving to God because they have not learned that God's love is all they need. Men waste their lives on pornography, because they have never learned to follow the King of Love wholeheartedly. Muslims blow up themselves and innocent people because they are searching for eternal love in the wrong place. Young people become sexually active and infected with deadly diseases, because they want love and have not found it in God.

What is going wrong with our society and culture? Jeremiah 2:13 (NIV) My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.  God alone is the source of the living water, God alone is the source of the love we all desire. Yet people have turned away from God, they have forsaken His love. They have looked for love in all the wrong places, digging cisterns that are broken and will never satisfy them with the love they are looking for. How can we understand and experience God's love in our lives?
