080406.jpgCurrently, we're in a message series called "God So Loved." We're looking at the most famous verse in the Bible, John 3:16. It's the greatest promise in the Bible.  If you apply John 3:16 to your life, you receive the greatest gift God has given. If you understand John 3:16, you can help someone else find a relationship with God. So, in this series, we're exploring the key concepts of John 3:16, phrase by phrase.

Today, we're going to look at the next phrase in John 3:16.  John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son ... God loved the people of this world so much that He decided to give the very best gift that He had, the most valuable gift that He had. My message is called "God's Matchless Gift." What makes a gift valuable? First of all, the more scarce a gift is, the more valuable it is. That's why gold and diamonds are so valuable, they're in short supply. God gave his one and only son. There is only one God in the universe and He has only one Son, which makes Jesus the most valuable person that God could give. The second characteristic that makes a gift valuable is what it can do or what change it can effect. God's gift of Jesus Christ changed the history of the world and it changed the lives and eternal destinies of millions of people. God's gift of Jesus has incredible power to bring about transformation to our lives and to our world.

Romans 8:32 (NIV) He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?  What an incredible verse. The Bible is saying here that God didn't hold back his very best from us, He did not spare His own son. God gave the most precious gift that He could have when He gave Jesus. If He gave Jesus, then anything else is ours as well. If you give someone an incredibly valuable gift and later on they ask you for something of much lesser value, would you give it to them? Of course. If you loved them enough to give your best, you would surely give them anything lesser they needed. And the same is true of God.  Some people think that God is stingy, that He doesn't give them what they want or need. That's simply not true. God gave His very best in Jesus. God is the most generous giver in the universe. God is a giver by nature.

If you're a believer, you've received God's best gift of Jesus. If you need anything else, all you've got to do is ask, believe and receive it.  Luke 12:31-32 (NLT) Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. ... For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.  It makes God happy to give to his children. But God is a good father and He doesn't give his children everything they want. What happens when a parent gives a child whatever they want? They become spoiled. God doesn't want that to happen. So He gives us what we need. He rewards us for seeking His kingdom above all else.  So this morning if your life and family is not full of the blessings and gifts of God, listen closely. When you understand the true meaning of God's matchless gift of Jesus, you are ready to receive everything else God wants to give you. So, what does God give you in his matchless gift of Jesus?
