080106.jpg We all live in a physical world of three dimensions. We interact with our environment through our five senses.  We have learned the laws of cause and effect. If we can get enough data, we should be able to predict of outcome of any situation. Or can we? Is the physical world all that there is? The Bible teaches us that there is another world that interacts with us in our physical world. This other world is the spiritual world.

Colossians 3:2 (NIV) Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  In other words, the Bible tells us not to just live in the physical world. You must learn to set your mind, your thinking on things above. That is, the spiritual world. You might say, well I do, on Sunday mornings. That’s fine and good. However, the spiritual world affects you 24 x7, not just on Sundays. As I look around, I see a lot of people and families with some pretty big problems. In my view, a high percentage of those problems are a result of not understanding the spiritual world.

So today, I begin a new message series entitled “Understanding the Spiritual World.” In this series, I’m going to explore how you can better understand this unseen spiritual world.  With a better understanding of the spiritual world, you’ll be able to avoid many problems in life that comes from a lack of awareness. The Bible calls those problems curses. You’ll also be able to benefit positively from a better understanding of this spiritual world. The Bible calls those benefits blessings.

Today my message is entitled, “How The Spiritual World Affects You.” I’m going to look at some of the basic principles that explain how the spiritual world operates and affects you and your family. Let’s look at it this way. The physical world has a set of laws that govern cause and effect. For example, if you walk out in the street in front of a Mac truck, you’re going to get killed. The impact of a multi-ton truck on a human body does not look pretty. So, we look both ways before crossing the street. Makes sense. The spiritual world also has a set of laws that work by cause and effect. The only difference is that the effects are often not instantly seen.

Here’s how the Bible describes the spiritual laws of cause and effect.  Galatians 6:7 (NIV) Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  In other words, what you do in life has consequences, both in the physical world and in the spiritual world. What I’m going to focus on today is the spiritual consequences to actions. People think that much of what they do has no consequence. Maybe it doesn’t in the physical realm, but in the spiritual realm everything you do has a consequence. Whether for good or for bad. So let’s look at little more closely at the spiritual world, beginning in the first book of the Bible, Genesis to see what we can learn.
