080803.jpgIn our message series "Living With Purpose" we've been looking at God's purposes for your life. In the past month we've look at the first four purposes. The first purpose is learning to love and know God, the purpose of worship. The second purpose is loving other people in God's family, the purpose of fellowship. The third purpose is growing more like Jesus, the purpose of discipleship. The fourth purpose is serving God by serving His family, the purpose of ministry.

Once you know the four purposes, God wants you to pass on what you know to other people.  Msg John 17:18 In the same way that You gave Me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.  Circle the phrase "in the world," this is the difference between a ministry and a mission. A ministry is to believers and a mission is to unbelievers. You need a ministry in the church and you need a mission to the world. To be a balanced believer and  to fulfill your purpose in life you need both.

What is our mission?  NCV Acts 20:24 The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me-to tell people the Good News about God's grace.  Paul's mission here is every believer's mission, to tell others the Good News. We need to complete our mission of telling others the Good News. And we do that by sharing what God has done in our lives.  So I've entitled today's message "Sharing God's Story."

If you're a believer, you have a story to tell, the story of what God has done in your life. That's our fifth purpose in life. The word for the fifth purpose is or outreach. Evangelism is the Greek word for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. NIV Acts 1:8 You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Underline the word "witnesses." What does a witness do? A witness in a court room simply tells what they have experienced, what they have seen and what they have heard. Jesus is simply saying that every follower of His is to tell others what they have experienced with God in their life. Where are we supposed to do it? First in your hometown, your Jerusalem, where you live with the people closest to you. Then with people who are not so close, people nearby who are different from you, your Judea and Samaria. Finally to the ends of the earth, to every person wherever they live, whatever they believe.

Today we're going to concentrate on completing your mission by sharing the good news with those in your immediate world, that's the place to begin. The people that we know, our friends, relatives and workmates are all at different places in their knowledge of God and in their readiness to hear the good news. The first step is to begin to pray regularly for the people that are in your world. Then what do you do next? How do you fulfill the mission?
