080518.jpgToday we start a new message series called "What Jesus Taught." I'm going to focus on some of Jesus' teaching in what is often called "The Sermon on the Mount." This section of Scripture is found in Matthew 5-7. I've chosen five topics out of this section of Jesus teaching that I believe are absolutely fundamental to having a biblical worldview.

What is a biblical worldview? A biblical worldview is a view of the world and life from a biblical perspective. It is seeing things around us like God sees them. A biblical worldview is the only correct worldview. All other views of the world are warped and incorrect. Why is it important to have a biblical worldview? When you have a biblical worldview, you have the proper understanding of what is going on in order to make godly decisions. When you make godly decisions, you will have a successful and prosperous life.

Unfortunately, very few people, including those who claim to be Christians, have a biblical worldview. A recent survey by George Barna indicated that only 5% of American adults had a biblical worldview regarding eight basic biblical principles. In fact, only 50% of Protestant senior pastors have a biblical worldview.  However, I can assure you that you will receive an accurate biblical worldview in all my teaching here at Full Life. John 6:63b (NIV) The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.  What Jesus taught will change your life, if you apply it. Without understanding what Jesus taught, your life will go from mess to bigger mess, which is where most people's lives are at today.

My first message in the series is called "What Jesus Taught About Influence." The definition of influence that I will be using is as follows. Influence is the power to affect another person for good.  Now, of course negative influence is affecting another person for evil, but that's not what Jesus taught about. The reason that you are alive is so that you can influence others for God. You are not alive just so you can enjoy life. You are going to enjoy heaven far more than this life, so if enjoyment was the reason for living, there would be no point in staying down here. You are alive so that you can influence others around you for good. The only thing in this world that is going to last forever are people. The people that you influence for God are going to remember you forever.  That's really the only thing worth living for, influencing others with God's truth.

The problem is that most people, including Christians are being influenced by the world around them and aren't doing much influencing themselves. Romans 12:2a (NIV) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Another translation says "Don't let the world squeeze you into it's mold." If you are not influencing the people around you, then you are being influenced by them. So, what did Jesus teach about influence that will help you influence others for God?
